NDIS
(THE NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME)
What is NDIS?
One in every six people has a disability in Australia. Their disability substantially impacts their abilities to live an independent, fulfilling, and normal life. The NDIS recognised the need of the people who have permanent and significant disabilities and is funding a government-supported scheme that provides support to eligible people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disabilities.
NDIS is not a welfare system. Instead, it is a scheme designed to allow people with disabilities to determine their future and receive funding that matches their needs and aspirations. Its key factor is to intervene as early as possible in a child’s or adult’s life and provide support in their daily life to reduce the impact of disability and build their skills and independence.
What Does NDIS Focus On?
NDIS’ main focus is to provide convenient care and support to disabled people based on their individual needs that make their participation in daily, social, community, and economic life easy.
Here are the kind of support NDIS funds –
- Daily personal activities – in your home or anywhere else.
- Transport support to enable participation in the community, social, economic and daily life activities
- Workplace help to allow a person to successfully get or keep employment.
- Therapeutic supports
- Assistance with household tasks to allow the participants to maintain their home environment
- Skilled personnel’s help in aids or equipment assessment, set up and training
- Home modification, design, and construction

The NDIS funding goes directly to individuals, and they are allowed to choose where and how to use their funding for their development, care and enhancement.
